Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente returned to the winner’s circle defeating Chivas de Guadalajara 2-0 at the Caliente Stadium to wrap up Friday’s action of week 10 of La Liga MX. With the victory the Aztec dogs return to a playoff spot moving into the 7th position on league table of the Clausura 2014.

Xolos Coach Cesar Farias was watching from the stands serving a one-game suspension after last week’s game against Veracruz FC. However, the team was able to overcome the challenge of being without their leader and take the game. The bonus for Farias is that he was celebrating his 41st birthday.

The rojinegros were unstoppable on the pitch. Argentine Dario Benedetto was a terror on the Chivas defense moving in from all directions with the goats not finding a way to stop him. In the 23rd minute Benedetto saw goalkeeper Antonio Rodriguez off his line. He chipped the ball and found the top far corner of the net to give Xolos the 1-0 lead.

Tijuana was dominant on the field with Chivas finding no solution to the local squad’s attack. Xolos maintained possession on the Chivas side of the field and could have won by a bigger margin. After 45 minutes of play the game went to break with the dogs leading 1-0.

Ecuadorian Jaimen Ayovi got the go from the team after making a recovery from injury that had limited his game time to just minutes this season. He was constant on the pitch and partnered with Benedetto in the 73rd minute to give Xolos the 2-0. Benedetto took the ball down the line pulling a defender and the keeper. He saw Ayovi was clear and centered to the Ecuadorian who simply pushed the ball into the net for the final 2-0 score.

Chivas could not find a solution to the home-side’s attack. The rojinegros easily moved into attack position making the Chivas defense look amateurish. Neither the youth players, nor the veterans on the Rebaño Sagrado’s squad could function against Xolos. The loss drops Chivas to the 8th position.

Xolos will travel to Mexico City to take on league leader Cruz Azul for week 11. Chivas returns home to host champion Leon FC at the Omnilife Stadium.
