Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente return home to take on CF Monterrey in week 6 of La Liga MX. The Aztec dogs will host the Rayados at the Caliente Stadium during Friday night action in the Clausura 2014. This is the 10th occasion that the teams square-off, including two games in the playoffs.
The numbers favor the regiomontanos with 3 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses. Tijuana played their first playoff game during the Clausura 2012 against Monterrey. The rojinegros lost the first encounter at home, then went for all earning a draw at the Tecnologico Stadium. The following season Xolos took the game at the "Tec" and drew at home, but advanced on aggregate.
In league play, Tijuana has won on one occasion, lost once and drawn twice. The last encounter was a 2-1 loss in Monterrey during the Apertura 2013.
Xolos arrives to Friday’s game in relevantly good form. With 7 points after five games, Tijuana has not lost at the Caliente Stadium this season. This is something that goes back to a 2-1 loss on April 20, 2013 when they lost against Monarcas Morelia. Tijuana has managed to make the Caliente Stadium a “fortress” having gone two of their last five seasons without a loss at home. This season Xolos looks to continue that pace.
The team is still without international strikers Jaimen Ayovi and Dario Benedetto. Both players remain on the injured list. This places more pressure on Americans Herculez Gomez and Paul Arriola on the front line. Ecuadorian Fidel Martinez is also expected to perform well on attack, but the speedy attacker is constantly marked by the opposition, the advantage is that he frees up a striker.
Omar Arellano and Candido Ramirez are not available for the game for Rayados. The two players suffered injuries midweek when they played against Cruz Azul Hidalgo in the Copa MX. Monterrey is not doing well in league play which leaves the game as a good opportunity for Xolos to move up a few paces on the league table.
Xolos will take on Monterrey at the Caliente Stadium on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at 7:30 pm PST.
