Club Tijuana has a busy schedule with three important games in the next seven days. Xolos will travel to Tuxtla-Gutierrez to take on Jaguares de Chiapas FC on Friday then move on the face Millonarios FC of Colombia in Copa Libertadores action.
Xoloitzcuintles is an in-demand team, the same day the Aztec dogs face Millonarios, a squad made up of up-and-coming youth players will take on MLS champions Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center.
Training began this week at Caliente stadium to prepare the team for the long voyages they will face in the next seven days. Coach Antonio Mohamed had training in reduced spaces as well as physical recovery exercises.
On Friday, Xolos have their seventh game in La Liga MX. They travel to the Chiapas jungle to face Jaguares. Xolos are trying to return to winning in the Clausura 2013 after two weeks without seeing a victory. The rojinegros lost their first game of the season, and the first at “fortress” Caliente since Jan. 29, 2012. The previous week they drew with Tigres UANL in Monterrey.
After travelling to the southern-most stadium in Mexico, they fly to Bogota to take on Millonarios. The millionaires won the 2012 Finalizazcion Championship to qualify for the Libertadores. They are returning to Libertadores action for the first time since 1997. Millonarios has never faced a Mexican team in the competition.
Xolos begin the Libertadores as the Mexican league Apertura 2012 champions, with a big responsibility on their shoulders representing Mexico.
“We concentrate on the upcoming game,” defender Edgar Castillo said to the press after training. “We’re hoping for a good result. Every week it’s a new challenge. First we visit Jaguares. We hope we do well over there. Every game is difficult and we want to come back with victories and keep up the good pace. After Jaguares we go to Colombia. We want to do well on our tour and return with a good result.”
Xolos will also face 2012 FIFA Clubs World Cup champions SC Corinthians Paulista of Brazil and CD San Jose de Oruro of Bolivia in the group stage of the Libertadores.
