Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente earned a valuable away point on the grounds of the Olimpico Universitario Stadium in Mexico City during week 6 action of the Apertura 2014 of La Liga MX. Xolos drew 1-1 with Pumas UNAM in a game where both teams had a different person standing in the coaches’ box. Xolos Coach Cesar Farias was suspended a game in week 5, and Pumas recently hired Guillermo Vasquez as the new “boss.”
The game had plenty of action with both teams looking to leave it all on the pitch. There were several near-misses but there would only be two goals in the game.
It took 40 minutes for the first ball to fall in the net. Daniel Ludueña fought for the ball in the area and centered but confusion in front of goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo left the rebound in front of Eduardo Herrera who sent it into the net for the 1-0.
The lead would not last long for Pumas. Argentine Dario Benedetto followed the ball all the way to the line in the 44th minute and sent it back to Richard Ruiz. Ruiz received the ball in the penalty area with no marker. He took a few steps to pull Alejandro Palacios off his line. Ruiz fired past Palacios to put Xolos on the board and close the gap 1-1.
With the draw, Xolos reach six points and move up in the league table. They will host Coras Tepic at the Caliente Stadium on Tuesday in Copa MX action. They will host Leones Negros on Aug. 29, 2014.
