Club Tijuana returns to the Caliente Stadium on Friday, July 18, 2014 to begin their participation in the Apertura 2014 of La Liga MX. Xolos will take on Puebla FC, team that is currently fighting to stave off relegation.

With just a few days left before the competition kicks off, Argentine Dario Benedetto and goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo addressed the media.

“We had a good preseason and we are working every day to kick off the new tournament,” Benedetto told the press. “We’re adapting well, we have confidence, the new players are also adapting well to the rest of the team. We are eager to start the new season.”

Benedetto arrived in Tijuana during the Apertura 2013 season from Argentine side Arsenal de Sarandi. Since his arrival, he has scored 14 goals in all competitions that Xolos have participated in. The 24 year-old is looking to be a major piece of Coach Cesar Farias’ line-up.

Saucedo on the other hand stressed the importance of opening the season at home.

“Starting off with our fans is important,” Saucedo said. “We’re motivated. We want to start the season off on the right foot. We know we’re taking on a complicated rival that has prepared themselves for the game, but we’re just as prepared with the hopes that everything will go well.”

Camoteros and Aztec dogs have faced-off six times in La Liga MX since the Apertura 2011. Tijuana has won on three occasions, Puebla has one win, and the remaining two games were a draw. To date, Tijuana has yet to lose against the Camoteros at the Caliente Stadium.

Tijuana begins their 7th season in La Liga MX. Last season Xolos made the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round. The Aztec dogs will be looking to repeat their performance from the Apertura 2012 season when they won La Liga MX.

The game takes place Friday at the Caliente Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
