According to a Sept. 2 Blog Talk Radio interview, XFC star Angela Magana (11-5) told host Gina Begley on Episode 32 of ProWMMA Now! that she plans to simultaneously hold belts in the XFC's 115-pound and 105-pound divisions.
"I would like to announce, I don't know if John Prisco would be too happy with this, but my weight is just staying really low this time," Magana said on the show. "I'd like to take the belt at 115 and I'd take the belt at 105 eventually to hold belts in both classes. Yeah I think I could do it.
"I just know I could drop that weight easily and I would love to take belts in both of them and defend both of them and be a champion in both. I think that would be a first for a woman. So I mean that's what I'm thinking about next if they let me."
Magana, 30, is getting a title shot against Stephanie Eggink on Sept. 7 in the main event of XFC 25 in New Mexico, and she plans to defend the belt as early as December.
She could then drop down to 105 to fight for an atomweight title perhaps in early-2014.
"I don't even know who is in 105 honestly," Magana said. "I love MMA, it's all me. But I'm more concerned with myself than others. There's so many new names out there, which is amazing and I just love that there's so many new people and so many women in it, but honestly unless you've been fighting for five or six years, I have no idea who you are."
Perhaps Magana is looking a bit too far into the future, as she has a tough challenge ahead in Eggink.
"I would actually much rather watch the life drain out of her eyes in a choke," Eggink said, when asked whether she would rather finish Magana via submission or KO. "As much as I love striking, there's something about watching somebody get choked out that's indescribable."
“Bad blood” is quite the understatement when discussing the current state of affairs between Eggink and Magana, but they are professionals who know they must wait to settle the score inside the cage on Sept. 6.
