The internal hard drive in the Xbox One is 500GB and is not removable which led one fan to ask Hyrb about support for external USB storage solutions during a live podcast at PAX Prime.
"The future plan is for definitely to support external storage much like we do on the Xbox 360," Hyrb responded. "My understanding is that feature will not be there at launch, because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list. I don't know when it will come in though."
The PS4 comes with a 500GB hard drive as well but does not support external hard drives for gameplay either. Instead, Sony will allow users to replace the hard drive with a larger one if they wish.
The Xbox One will be released sometime this November. It's doubtful that owners of the console will fill the hard drive space up within the first few months of release but it is something that Microsoft will have to address down the line.
