Microsoft announced the Xbox One on May 21, but you may want to hold onto your 360 if you plan to snag one at launch this year. According to a comment given to Polygon by Microsoft, their next-generation console will be unable to play Xbox 360 titles. The reasoning sounds very similar to why Sony’s PlayStation 4 will be unable to play PlayStation 3 games; the tech is too different from the previous consoles to support backwards compatibility.

If this follows the same idea surrounding the PS4’s lack of PlayStation 3 compatibility, does this also mean XBLA games won’t carry over as well? Will they find a work around for this development? With all the news pouring out after the big reveal, things aren’t looking great for Microsoft. Microsoft’s stock has dropped, with enemies Sony and Nintendo’s stock rising since the reveal.
With all the new information coming out, are you hyped or disappointed with the Xbox One? How do you think it stacks up to the PlayStation 4 and Wii U? Let us know in the comments!
