According to a report today from VG 24/7, Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara said the Xbox One launching in Europe a week before the PlayStation 4 shouldn’t give an advantage to one next-gen console or another.
This upcoming console war doesn’t really compare to the last, Gara said, when the Xbox 360 had a 16-month advantage over the PS3.
“Would you rather have seven days or sixteen months?” Gara said. “I think it’s a moot point really, we’re effectively launching at the same time. I don’t think seven days is going to have an advantage or disadvantage.”
Gara said where he expects the PS4 to outshine the Xbox One is in pricing; the PS4 will go for $399.99 and the Xbox One will go for $499.99.
“Value to the consumer is everything, which is price and quality of content for that price,” Gara said. “We feel in very good shape on that front. We’re really pleased.”
The PS4 hits shelves in North America on Nov. 15 and Europe on Nov. 29. The Xbox One launches on Nov. 22 in the U.S. and several European and Asia/Pacific markets.
