Microsoft just announced that a new update is coming to the Xbox One on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 10. The update will fix a number of issues including dashboard performance, re-joining multiplayer games and others.

If you have your Xbox One set with the "Instant On" option, the update will download automatically in the background starting at 8 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. PST on Tuesday night. Once the download is complete, the console will completely power down requiring you to press the power button on the front of the console or by pressing the Guide button on the controller.

The update will be installed once the Xbox One powers back up and will re-boot and will show the Xbox One logo on a green background while the installation process is on-going. This should take approximately two to five minutes.

Users who do not have the "Instant On" turned on for the Xbox One will be required to download and install the update after Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. EST / 4 p.m. PST.

Here are the issues that will be fixed according to Microsoft. More are planned based on feedback received from the Xbox One community.

  • Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
  • Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
  • Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
  • Addresses dashboard performance for some users
  • Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
  • Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users
