Microsoft officially announced on Tuesday that the Xbox One would be sold without the Kinect starting June 9 in the United States at a $399 price point.

The move comes in the wake of struggling sales figures for the console, as its competitor the Playstation 4 has soared past it in terms of profit. Current Xbox Ones will not function properly if the Kinect is unplugged from the unit, turning many consumers off of the product. In addition to the required peripheral, the Xbox One touted a $499 price tag versus the Playstation 4's $399 price.

For those who still want the Kinect, it will be available as a separately sold accessory for the Xbox One units that ship without it. The standalone units will go one sale on June 9th in all markets where the console is currently available.
