Providing gamers with their first chance to play Fable Legends on the Xbox One, Lionhead Studios is preparing a beta test for the Xbox One title later this fall. In addition to offering fans an opportunity to try out the next installment of the popular fantasy franchise, the beta will focus the game’s multilayer features. This will give many players their first taste of the series’ new four-player co-op mode. Joystiq reported on Tuesday that, during the Microsoft Gamescom 2014 press conference, it was announced that Fable Legends’ multiplayer beta will begin on Oc. 16 for the Xbox One.

All that has been confirmed at this time is that a multiplayer-focused beta test will take place for Fable Legends on the Xbox One this October. Details about how to take part in the beta or who will be eligible to participate have not yet been revealed.

While the Fable franchise has featured co-op gameplay in the past, Lionhead Studios is pushing the cooperative aspect of the series’ next entry further by allowing up to five gamers to play together in Fable Legends. Four players will take on the role of Albion’s newest champions of might, skill, and will while the fifth will play as the title’s villain who will be able to set traps and spawn monsters in an effort to thwart the heroes.

Unlike previous installments, fans won’t be able to create their own playable character within Fable Legends. Players will instead be presented with four pre-built characters to choose to play as. Each hero has their own unique look, personality, and skills. This is just one of Fable Legends many departures from the franchise’s earlier games.

Fable Legends will release exclusively on the Xbox One. More details will be revealed about how to get into the upcoming beta test as its start date approaches.
