In a post touting the 3 million Xbox One consoles sold in 2013, Halo for the Xbox One (aka Halo 5) was left off a list of upcoming games in 2014. Microsoft PR Manager Rob Semsey had to take to Twitter to assure gamers that the first next-gen Master Chief adventure has not been delayed.
"Xbox Wire today mentioned a few 2014 titles; Halo on Xbox One not listed due to official name of the next title not announced yet," Semsey wrote on Twitter.
"Rest assured your next Halo journey WILL begin in 2014. #staycalm," he concluded.
343 Industries has quietly been toiling away on the next Halo since the release of Halo 4 in 2012. Official details on the game have been non-existent but a description accidentally leaked on the Microsoft Store gave some clues to the next installment of the franchise.
"In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted," the description read.
As for the name, it's unclear why Microsoft has played coy with calling the next Halo game Halo 5 unless it is planning on completely changing the naming conventions of the franchise for the next-gen console. A recent job listing from 343 Industries hints at a branching out of the franchise into an episodic series.
