Microsoft dropped a flurry of information about the Xbox One on Thursday regarding how the next-gen console handles used games, multiple family accounts, game rentals, privacy and more. One item that was briefly mentioned though definitely shakes up the traditional console model though and that is how many times an Xbox One game can be given away to someone else.
Microsoft detailed two requirements for giving away Xbox One games in a post on Xbox Wire. The first is that the person receiving the game must have been on the friends list of the person giving it away for at least 30 days. The second is the one that will likely have the gaming community in an uproar though as Microsoft states, "each game can only be given once."
So once an Xbox One game that is already registered to one account and is given to someone else and they install and activate it on their console, that game disk now becomes a coaster.
This is shocking news on how game ownership is treated on consoles and will likely be a hot topic through E3 next week and into the console's launch later this year.
Expect more details to come with E3 next week. Microsoft's press conference will happen Monday, June 10 at 12:30 p.m. EST.
