With the Xbox One announced, Microsoft put an end to months of speculation about its next-generation gaming system. The product was unveiled at an event in Redmond, Washington. According to a report by Forbes on May 22, 2013, the Xbox One comes bundled with the Kinect 2.0 and has familiar looking controllers.
"No price and no launch date beyond later this year were announced. This might be contributing to the lack of movement in stock price. It also means we’ll have to take bets on who announces a price first: Sony or Microsoft?"
Competitor Sony's PlayStation 4 was announced in February, but will not be available until the fourth quarter of 2013. All we know about the availability of the Xbox One is that it will be sometime in 2013. Both units were announced before this year's E3, an annual trade show for the computer and video games industry, where you would expect to get news like this first. Maybe they are planning follow up these announcements with much more information on the games to be available.
The specs include 8GB of RAM and "8 times the graphical performance of the Xbox 360." The Kinect 2.0, which is a sensor to provide controller-free gaming, will be bundled. The Xbox One will also include a Blu-Ray layer too. The controllers, which many gamers love, will remain largely untouched in this revision. It was also announced that Steven Spielberg is teaming up with Microsoft to make a live-action Halo TV series.
"'We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games," the company wrote. "We'll have more details to share later.'"
There is a bit of controversy right now when it comes to used games and the Xbox One. Gamers have enjoyed buying and trading used games with the Xbox 360. According to the statement above it sounds like they will make this so for Xbox One users as well. But so far each owner of the new system will need to purchase the right to play through his or her Xbox Live account.
The Xbox One is the successor to the popular Xbox 360. It is the third console in the family from Microsoft and will compete with the aforementioned PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii U. The unit will reportedly support 4K video output and 7.1 surround sound.
