According to previous leaks regarding Microsoft's next generation console, which is currently being referred to as the Xbox 720, it looks as if Microsoft will be bundling an improved version of the Kinect with this new system. According to an article that was published by The Verge today, sources that are knowledgeable about Microsoft's plans for the Xbox 720 has revealed that the new Kinect will support “wake on voice, natural language controls, and speech-to-text.”
With the addition of this functionality, it is stated that the Xbox 720 will have the ability to wake up when the user walks into the room and says “Xbox on.” In addition to this, Microsoft is looking into technology that will allow the Kinect for the Xbox 720 to detect how many people are in a room and make suggestions on multiplayer titles to play.
The new Kinect will also feature natural language detection, this will allow the user to ask the system questions such as “what are my friends playing” and have the Xbox 720 respond to this interaction. With the addition of features such as this, Microsoft will grant themselves the opportunity to take advantage of the aspect of natural interaction between the user and the system.
