Xbox 360 vs PS3: 2013 exclusives comparison

There was an article on gamesector a few days ago titled "8 Upcoming Xbox 360 Games, That aren’t coming to PS3" which garnered a lot of attention for its argument that despite popular opinion, there actually are a bunch of Xbox 360 exclusives coming out in 2013. This assertion is both true and untrue, depending on how you look at it.

The article made me curious as to which system actually had the better lineup of upcoming games. Included below is a list of all PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 exclusives scheduled for release in 2013. This list includes console exclusives and also noteworthy arcade titles (several upcoming XBLA exclusives aren't listed, such as Kinect Sports Gems, because they aren't really noteworthy. The PS3 has no upcoming PSN exclusives that I could find).

PS3 exclusives:

  • The Last of Us
  • God of War: Ascension
  • Dust 514
  • Beyond: Two Souls
  • Ni no Kuni
  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
  • Tales of Xillia
  • The Witch and the Hundred Knights
  • Puppeteer
  • Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Twilight Land
  • Until Dawn
  • Hyperdemsion Neptunia Victory
  • MLB 13: The Show

Xbox 360 exclusives:

  • Gears of War: Judgment
  • Dark
  • Deadfall Adventures
  • Ascend: New Gods (XBLA)
  • Monaco: What's Yours is Mine (XBLA)
  • Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons (XBLA)
  • State of Decay (XBLA)
  • Crimson Dragon (XBLA)
  • Matter (XBLA)
  • LocoCycle (XBLA)
  • Skulls of the Shogun (XBLA)

As you can see by comparing the lists above, the PlayStation 3 has a much stronger lineup of exclusives this year. The vast majority of the 360's upcoming exclusives are just Xbox LIVE Arcade games and in the eyes of many hardcore gamers, these don't really count.

All of the PS3's exclusives are full-fledged games and many of them are expected to be blockbusters. The Xbox 360 really only has one blockbuster game coming out - Gears of War: Judgment. One game I left off the list was Ryse because it has never been confirmed the game will be released in 2013.

With an official reveal of the Xbox 720 expectedly just around the corner, one has to wonder if Microsoft might be focusing more on development for their new console. It'll be pretty slim-pickings for Xbox 360 owners this year when it comes to exclusives.
