Microsoft revealed Tuesday that it has signed an exclusive deal to bring the Redbox Instant video streaming service to the Xbox 360 "in the very near future."
Redbox Instant is a direct competitor to Netflix born from the same company that popularized the movie and game rental kiosks in various retail locations. It will be added to the Xbox LIVE line-up of video streaming apps as a console exclusive.
The unlimited video streaming service is included as part of a $8.99 a month package that includes 4 DVD rentals or $9.99 a month for 4 Blu-ray rentals. The Xbox 360 app will not be limited to just those that subscribe to Redbox Instant Video, however. Users will also be able to purchase and rent the latest digital releases.
Redbox Instant is currently in the beta phase and you can sign up for it now here and get one month of the service for free. A code for the Xbox 360 app will be sent to your email address in the near future according to Microsoft's Larry Hyrb.
