'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is No. 1 at U.S. box office; 'Blended' is No. 3

20th Century Fox's superhero flick "X-Men: Days of Future Past" easily debuted at No. 1 at the U.S. and Canadian box office for the weekend ending May 25, 2014. According to a Box Office Mojo report published on May 25, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (starring Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy) had $91.4 million in ticket sales for the weekend ending May 25, 2014. Adding in the ticket sales for the three-day Memorial Weekend that ended on May 26, 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past" made $111 million at the box office.

Warner Bros Pictures' "Blended" (a romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore) debuted at No. 3, with $14.2 million in ticket sales.

According to Box Office Mojo, here are the Top 5 movies in the U.S. and Canada for the weekend ending May 25, 2014:

1. "X-Men: Days of Future Past" — $91.4 million ($111 million for the weekend ending May 26, 2014)

2. "Godzilla" — $31.1 million ($39.45 million for the weekend ending May 26, 2014)

3. "Blended" — $14.2 million ($18.2 million for the weekend ending May 26, 2014)

4. "Neighbors" — $13.9 million ($17.2 million for the weekend ending May 26, 2014)

5. "The Amazing Spider-Man" — $7.8 million ($10 million for the weekend ending May 26, 2014)

And here are the opening-weekend box-office numbers for the movies that opened in limited release on May 23, 2014:

  • "Words and Pictures" — $91,400 from 10 theaters
  • "Cold in July" — $40,800 from six theaters (Also premiered on VOD on May 23, 2014)
  • "The Dance of Reality" — $25,000 from two theaters
  • "Gore Vidal: United States of Amnesia" — $14,000 from two theaters
  • "Stand Clear of the Closing Doors" — $7,000 from one theater
