According to Inquisitr on Dec. 14, though sources may think it's too early to speculate as such, there seems to be a chance that James Marsden could return as Cyclops in "X-Men: Apocalypse". Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe tended to stray away from the typical stories of the comic book genres, some fans were in opposition of the story lines of the "X-Men" films, especially when Jean Grey, Cyclops, and especially Professor Charles Xavier were killed off.
Though Marsden won't be returning for "X-Men: Days of Future Past" due to scheduling conflicts, he doesn't really have plans around the time block in which "X-Men: Apocalypse" will begin filming which also would not necessarily keep him from being in the film.
Marsden was asked if he would be in the Bryan Singer sequel to which he replied, "“I hope so. Yeah, I hope so. I love being a part of that world".
The comic book story line does indicate that Pheonix and Cyclops were the primary characters to have defeated Apocalypse, but also bringing back Scott Summers could bring about thoughts of his future son, Cable, which had also participated in the element of time travel much like that of "X-Men: Days of Future Past", could spawn yet another storyline that may involve a "buddy film" pairing up alongside Deadpool. "X-Men: Apocalypse" could be speculated as the kind of film that may give rise to many comic book fans fantasies.
