Most people know Sal Masekela as the host for ESPN's Summer and Winter X Games.

But he’s also an journalist, producer, actor and, among other things, a musician as well.

Not only he’s the son of legendary South African Jazz musician, Hugh Masekela, but his band, Alekesam, recently released their debut album, titled "The Sound of Alekesam" (click the previous link to preview and download their songs).

And today, at 7PM, he’ll be performing live at Sonos Studios (145 N. La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036), alongside KCRW DJ Chris Douridas, after the screening of “Alekesam”, a 2011 film by director Jason Bergh that details Sal’s return to his musical roots through a reconnection with his father, and chronicles the highs and lows of his parent's life.

Hugh Masekela, an Apartheid activist, was exiled from his homeland in South Africa for 30 years and the short documentary was recently accepted into the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.
