"The X Factor" USA completed a very competitive night on Dec. 11 when the final four acts each sang three songs. Two of the tunes were performed as solos and one of the tunes was done as a duet with another competitor. Talk about a nail-biting situation on this TV talent show that will end next week when a winner is voted into the official musical fold as he, she, or they is/are given a one million dollar recording contract.
That said, how did each act fare on "The X Factor" USA semifinals and which ones will be voted off the Fox show on Dec. 12?
In answer to the first part of that question, Jeff Gutt had a great night, starting off with his rendition of the Leonard Cohen tune called "Hallelujah" that earned the father of one a standing ovation. Indeed, Kelly Rowland's lone protege left in the competition was well received after he gave his all during all three of his performances for the evening.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell's group known as Alex & Sierra were also on their best game as the boyfriend and girlfriend duo performed for "The X Factor" USA semifinals. This pair, long thought of as the dark horses in the competition, seem to have come into their own just in the nick of time.
In fact, their cover of "Falling Slowly" was arguably the highlight of the evening. Or at least Demi Lovato thought so as she called this her "best vocal performance" for the entire season of the show.
As for Carlito Olivero, the final contestant representing the boys who have been mentored by Latina superstar Paulina Rubio?
This saucy singer was at his best during his time on the stage and may just have won over a bunch of voters who didn't consider him a contender until this particular evening of song. A daring choice, Carlito sang Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" — and even ended up rocking out with Kelly Rowland during the performance.
Then there's Simon's group called Restless Road. Each member of this trio hand picked by Cowell was certainly on task for his last time out on the "X Factor" USA stage. In fact, everyone in the audience and at the judges table stood in appreciation after these guys sang a compelling version of Hunter Hayes' song called "Wanted."
So, who will make it through the "X Factor" USA semifinals during the results show to compete in the finals? On the contrary, who will be voted off "The X Factor" on Dec. 12? In a just few hours everyone will know that answer so stay tuned to Fox on Thursday night.
