On Feb. 13, 2014, "American Idol" revealed the Top 31 semi-finalist contestants of the year, with the 32nd finalist to be voted on by viewers. Among these semi-finalists is 21-year-old Jillian Jensen, who made it to the Top 24 on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2012 before she was eliminated by "X Factor" judge/mentor Demi Lovato during the "judges' houses" phase of the competition.
People who watched Jensen's "X Factor" audition may remember that she brought Lovato to tears with her story about being bullied in school. Jensen also revealed that, just like Lovato, she has a tattoo that says "Stay Strong." Jensen's sob story even caused Simon Cowell to get choked up during her audition, in which she sang and cried while performing Jessie J's "Who You Are."
Unfortunately, Jensen just kept on crying throughout her "X Factor" journey, and her tendency to break down and cry may have been her undoing on "The X Factor."
Jensen's elimination was somewhat controversial because many viewers felt that she was more talented than some of the contestants who were kept longer on the show.
In an October 2012 telephone conference call with journalists, Cowell commented on Jensen's "X Factor" elimination by saying: "I know people were concerned about losing Jillian, and I think I know why she was replaced by somebody else, because it was all getting a little bit too gloomy. You’ve got choose people who can be entertainers. I kind of admire Demi for making that decision because she really liked her as a person, but she just went with her gut instinct."
As previously reported, another "X Factor" U.S. alum was also featured on "American Idol's" Season 13 in 2014: Austin Percario, who was part of the kiddie group InTENsity, which came in 12th place on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2011.
InTENsity disbanded shortly after being eliminated from "The X Factor." Percario is now a solo singer. Percario didn't make it as far on "American Idol" as he did on "The X Factor." He was eliminated during "American Idol" Hollywood Week, which is similar to "X Factor" boot camp.
Feb. 18, 2014 update: Jensen was eliminated from "American Idol" during the show's Rush Week. Just like what happened on "The X Factor," Jensen was dropped from the competition before getting a chance to perform in the live episodes.
