On June 20, 2014, "The X Factor" U.K. held auditions in front of the judges at Emirates Stadium in London. In 2014, there have hardly been any major media reports about what is going on in the auditions, which are closed to the public. It's a big change from previous years when "X Factor" auditions would often make tabloid headlines. At the London auditions on June 20, "X Factor" U.K. judges Cheryl Cole, Mel B and Louis Walsh posed for photos on the red carpet, but judge/executive producer Simon Cowell did not.
"The Xtra Factor" host Sarah-Jane Crawford has given a glimpse into how auditions are going so far. She told the Daily Mirror: ""I started this week and I love it, everyone is great. The girls, Mel and Cheryl are lovely. They seem to get on really well and Simon was just so warm and welcoming.
"I think having Mel and Cheryl is just such a perfect panel. They are going to be so good together. I can't wait for it all to get going. I didn't see too much of the judges because they are in their own rooms but I'm really looking forward to getting to know Mel and Cheryl better. I was so nervous. It is such a big thing for me. I was so pleased when I found out I had this job."
Crawford also commented on racial diversity on "The X Factor" U.K.: "There aren't as many black or mixed-race women in the entertainment industry. Sometimes you can only count the number on one hand. 'The Xtra Factor' has had Konnie Huq, though, which is great.
"And they had Kelly Rowland on the judging panel a couple of years ago so the show has been quite urban for a while, which is good. But I don't want it to all be about that for me. I am happy to be a role model, though. But what I just want to do is a really good job. Television is where it's at for me."
