The year 2013 had its share of ups and downs for "X Factor" stars when it came to their love lives and baby news. Here's a summary of what happened in the year:
ROMANCES AND BREAKUPS
There have been conflicting reports on when "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell began his adulterous affair with New York socialite Lauren Silverman while she was still married to his close friend Andrew Silverman, but their affair became public in July 2013, when it was also revealed that she became pregnant with Cowell's first child, and she is due to give birth in February 2014. Lauren and Andrew Silverman (who filed for divorce in July 2013, on grounds of adultery) reached a divorce settlement in August 2013. The Silvermans had been married for 10 years and have a 7-year-old son named Adam. Meanwhile, Cowell has confirmed reports that the child he and Lauren Silverman are having is a boy, but Cowell has not confirmed or denied rumors that he plans to get engaged to or marry Lauren Silverman.
One Direction (which came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010) kept tabloids and other gossip media busy, as the teen-idol group continued to be the biggest boy band and biggest "X Factor" act in the world in 2013, with No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries.
One Direction's Harry Styles was the focus of most of the gossip. In January 2013, he ended his controversial relationship with Taylor Swift. Neither has publicly commented on the reasons for the breakup, and some people believe that their romance was a publicity stunt. After his split from Swift, Styles was romantically linked to several women, including Kimberly Stewart (one of Rod Stewart's daughters), Kendall Jenner (one of Kim Kardashian's half-sisters) and model Cara Delevingne, who has dated Styles off and on since 2012.
One Direction's Zayn Malik and Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, who began dating in April 2012, got engaged on Aug. 17, 2013. They have not yet set a wedding date. Their relationship survived a cheating scandal in January 2013, when Australian waitress Courtney "CJ" Webb gave a tell-all interview to The Sun saying that she and Malik had a one-night stand in his London home while Edwards was away on tour. Malik and Edwards have not publicly commented on Webb's allegations.
Meanwhile, One Direction's Louis Tomlinson continued to battle rumors that he is secretly gay and in love with Styles. Tomlinson has adamantly denied those rumors and has said in many interviews that he is in love with and has a monogamous relationship with Eleanor Calder, the University of Manchester student whom he has been dating since late 2011.
One Direction's Niall Horan has not had a serious girlfriend since One Direction found fame on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, although in 2013, he dated model Zoe Whelan and model Barbara Palvin. He was also rumored to have had flings with "Made in Chelsea" co-star Louise Thompson, singer Ellie Goulding and "X Factor" U.K. 2013 contestant Tamera Foster. He has stated in many interviews in 2013 that she does not have a girlfriend.
One Direction's Liam Payne and his dancer girlfriend, Danielle Peazer (who began dating since late 2010), moved in together in mid-2012, they broke up in September 2012, got back together in December 2012, and broke up again in May 2013. By July 2013, Payne had moved on to a new girlfriend: Sophia Smith, a former school mate. By the end of 2013, Payne and Smith were still going strong.
The four members of Little Mix ("The X Factor" U.K. 2011 winner) also had changes in their love lives in 2013. As previously mentioned, Little Mix's Edwards and One Direction's Malik got engaged in August 2013
In February 2013, Little Mix's Jesy Nelson's relationship with Jordan Banjo of the dance troupe Diversity ended; they had dated for nearly a year.
In February 2013, Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock announced that she was dating soccer player Jordan Kiffin.
Meanwhile, Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall was still going strong with boyfriend Sam Chaske, another member of Diversity. They began dating since 2012.
Kelly Rowland ("The X Factor" U.S. judge in 2013, "The X Factor" U.K. judge in 2011) has been dating her manager Tim Witherspoon since 2011. In December 2013, Rowland announced on "The Queen Latifah Show" that she and Witherspoon had been secretly engaged for months. Rowland refuses to tell the media any details about her wedding plans and generally avoids talking about Witherspoon in interviews.
"The X Factor" U.K. judge Nicole Scherzinger and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton have been an on-again/off-again couple since 2008. They broke up in June 2013, but by the end of 2013, they were seen spending time together as if they were a couple, which has led to speculation thath they might have gotten back together again.
"The X Factor" U.K. judge Sharon Osbourne weathered another near-divorce from her husband, Ozzy Osbourne. In April 2013, tabloids reported that the couple (married since 1982) had been living apart and had stopped wearing their wedding rings. Shortly after these reports surfaced, recovering addict/alcoholic Ozzy publicly admitted that he relapsed from late 2011 to early 2013. By June 2013, the Osbournes had reconciled. In her 2013 memoir, "Unbreakable," Sharon detailed their marital problems during this dfficult period of time, and she admitted that she had asked Ozzy for a divorce but changed her mind.
At 16 years old, Tamera Foster (fifth place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2013) got some public criticism for giving the perception that she's a teenage vixen, since she dumped her boyfriend Joshante Amihyia after she found fame on "The X Factor" and reportedly had flings with One Direction's Niall Horan and fellow "X Factor" U.K. contestant Sam Callahan, who came in seventh place on the show in 2013. Amihyia told The Sun that when he and Foster got together, she had seduced him, even though she knew that he already had a girlfriend, whom he eventually broke up with to be with Foster.
Former "X Factor" judge Cheryl Cole and her backup dancer Tre Holloway went public with their romance in July 2012, but they broke up in October 2013.
Former "X Factor" U.S. judge Demi Lovato and actor Wilmer Valderrama have been dating off and on since 2010. In 2013, they rekindled their romance, but Lovato refuses to publicly discuss her relationship with Valderrama or any details about whom she's been dating.
Former "X Factor" U.S. judge Britney Spears and her former agent Jason Trawick, began dating in 2009, got engaged in 2011, and announced their breakup on Jan. 14, 2013, the same day that Spears announced her exit from "The X Factor." Spears quickly moved on to dating David Lucado (a law-firm employee), and their relationship was still going strong by the end of 2013.
Former "X Factor" U.S. co-host Khloe Kardashian and basketball player Lamar Odom got married in 2009, after dating each other for only a few weeks, and there have been divorce rumors about them ever since. In December 2013, that rumor became a fact: Kardashian filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences," after months of tabloid reports that Odom is a drug addict who has cheated on her with multiple women. Kardashian and Odom had been living apart for several months before she filed for divorce.
Cher Lloyd (who came in fourth place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010) and hair stylist Craig Monk got engaged in 2011. She and Monk had a secretive wedding on Nov. 18, 2013. Lloyd announced the nuptials by posting their wedding photo on her Instagram account two days later. Lloyd has refused to publicly reveal further details about the wedding.
As previously mentioned, Cowell and Lauren Silverman are expecting a son in February 2014.
