The "X Factor" Season 3 finale airs on Fox Television on Wednesday evening, with the results finale following the night after for the reveal of the season's winner. Alex and Sierra, Mentor Simon Cowell's last remaining finalist from the Groups, has come on strong in the past couple of weeks, even scoring two No. 1 songs on the iTunes Top 100 Songs list. But can they take the title with Jeff Gutt from the Over 25s and Carlito Olivero from the Boys also making powerful moves in the past few weeks? What do the professional oddsmakers say?
Over at Bovada.com, oddsmakers posting the odds going into the Dec. 18 finale performance show don't think much of Carlito Olivero's chances of taking the "X Factor" title. They give him only 12/1 odds of winning. Now, this is not to say that Carlito is going to lose. Odds of winning are just that: They are a ratio of the difficulty of winning. The one in the 12/1 is that chance of winning that defies the number on the other side of the slash. Judge/mentor Paulina Rubio's protege has the longest odds of winning the competition by far. Back when the Top 12 were just getting started, Bovada had him at exactly the same odds. However, at the time, six other acts had better odds than he of winning. Only one of those acts -- Alex & Sierra -- now stand in his way.
Jeff Gutt had the longest odds to overcome in getting to the Season 3 finale. Strong performances have lifted him others that have stumbled. He's now sitting just a little off the leading pace at 7/2 odds. Back at the beginning of November, Bovada had him at 14/1 odds of winning (PaddyPower.com had him with worse odds but in relatively the same position at 20/1 odds), with only one artist with worse odds: Sweet Suspense.
Alex & Sierra, of course, have the best odds to win "X Factor" this season. They had the fourth-best odds (13/2) back when there were twelve acts left. Now they're the frontrunners (at 1/4 odds), having watched Restless Road, Lillie McCloud, and Rachel Potter all fall by the wayside on the road to the finale. But their on-stage chemistry, not to mention their unique jazzy take on modern and classic pop songs has launched them to the fore among the "X Factor" finalists, making them not only an audience and a judges favorite, but apparently the oddsmakers' favorite as well.
"X Factor" Season 3 Odds To Win
Carlito Olivero (Boys, Coach Paulina Rubio) - 12/1
Jeff Gutt (Over 25s, Coach Kelly Rowland) - 7/2
Alex & Sierra (Groups, Coach Simon Cowell) - 1/4
"X Factor" airs its two-part finale on Fox Television beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 8 p.m. The second part, the results reveal, airs on Thursday, Dec. 19 beginning at 8 p.m. as well.
