A full slate of holiday big band favorites is in store for the audience when multiple Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis brings the "Jazz Roots Big Band Holidays" concert to the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.
The Dec. 20 concert stars the multiple Grammy winning Marsalis along with special guest Cecile McLorin Savant and the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra.
"We are thrilled to present for the first time a unique holiday program by the inimitable Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which returns by popular demand to our Knight Concert Hall Stage," said M. John Richard, president and CEO of the Arsht Center. "We are also incredibly proud to have the opportunity to introduce Miami native Cecile McLorin Salvant, who is an extraordinary revelation in contemporary vocal jazz," he added.
Salvant, who has been called one of the "7 Young Players to Watch" by Ebony.com, will be featured on soulful renditions of the season's most festive songs. In 2010, she was the youngest finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and took home first prize.
Founded by legendary jazz producer Larry Rosen, the Jazz Roots series is now in its sixth season. The program is dedicated to bringing the best in in jazz performance to Miami as well as providing educational opportunities to music students here as well.
Tickets for the holiday concert range from $25 to $150 and may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 949-6722 or online.
