Wynton Marsalis is chosen as keynote speaker at UVM commencement. His accomplishments read like a Who’s Who of music.
Here are just a few of his milestones:
- First jazz musician to receive the Pulitzer Prize for music in 1997
- Received Grammys in music for five consecutive years.
- Received a Grammy for both jazz and classical music in the same year in 1983.
- Written six books. His “How Jazz can Change Your Life” (2008) has become a bestseller.
- Currently Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
His career includes multiple roles as performer, composer, bandleader and educator.
