Last season ABC learned an interesting lesson in that fans of the long running series “Dancing With The Stars,” would rather watch amateurs attempt to dance than have more experienced celebs return to the ballroom. This morning the network regrouped and reloaded with a new arsenal of stars ready to compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy.
Revealed this morning on “Good Morning America,” the season 16 cast features everyone from a Super Bowl champion to a country music legend. Among the top names this season includes country music singer Wynonna Judd and comedians D.L. Hughley, and Andy Dick. However the world of sports and reality TV is also well represented.
With past notable athletes including winners Donald Driver, Emmitt Smith and Hines Ward, the series has had good luck with Super Bowl champs and this season Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones will join the fray along with former WBC champ Victor Ortiz, Olympic “Fab Five” gymnast Ali Raisman and Olympic legend Dorothy Hamill.
The cast also includes a pair of reality staples including “Real Housewives” star Lisa Vanderpump and “American Idol” star Kellie Pickler. This marks the first time a “Idol” contestant has crossed over to “Dancing With The Stars” and given Pickler’s appeal while on “Idol,” producers are hoping to cash in on her special brand of charm.
While the season doesn’t have any major surprises in the cast, the inclusion of Andy Dick is a bit shocking in its own right as Dick is notorious for his wild antics and equally wild past that includes run-ins with the law for drugs and alcohol. If he’s truly conquered his demons though, Dick could be a fun addition to the cast.
Rounding out the group are two ABC staples with one-time “General Hospital” star Ingo Rademacher and current Disney teen queen Zenaya Coleman taking the final slots.
