Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Adrian Wyllie scheduled his first campaign stop in his recently announced bid for the governorship of Florida in 2014.
On Thursday evening, Jan. 10, 2013, Wyllie will take time to talk taxes and political policy with the Lake City Tea Party. This meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., will be held at 128 Southwest Birley Avenue, Lake City, Fla. – the home of the Lake City Tea Party.
Libertarians move to capitalize on momentum from 2012
The Libertarian Party is moving to capitalize on the momentum it built in 2012 with Gary Johnson’s record setting vote total of over 1.2 million in the 2012 Election for President of the United States. Six other Libertarian candidates for state and local-level offices also surpassed one million votes on Election Day 2012.
In addition to the voters that supported Libertarian candidates in 2012, a large number of Tea Party and libertarian-leaning Republicans have begun leaving the GOP in droves since the Republican National Convention held in Tampa, Fla. in August 2012. Romney’s “scorched earth” campaign style and blatant disenfranchisement of Ron Paul supporters likely cost the Republicans millions of votes in the election.
Fiscal cliff compromises lead to further disillusionment among fiscal conservatives
More recently Ohio Representative John Boehner’s inability to leverage more spending cuts in place of tax increases from President Obama and the Democrats have further alienated fiscal conservatives from the party once heralding “smaller government.”
The Republican Speaker of the House has proceeded in purging fiscal hawks from budgetary and related monetary committees.
Wyllie believes he and his party can take advantage of disillusioned Republicans unwilling to accompany the GOP’s drift towards the middle on monetary policy.
He also feels he can gain the support from the growing levels of frustrations among voters from all political parties fearing the increasing encroachment on liberties and freedoms led by both Republican and Democratic politicians in Washington, D.C. today.
