Wyclef Jean not eligible for presidency of Haiti? (photos, video)
PORT-AU-PRINCE -- News just released says that Wyclef Jean will not be allowed to run for president of Haiti, says Reuters
An official, who chose to remain anonymous, told Reuters: "He's not on the list as I speak."
The Fugees frontman is said to not be eligible to run for president of Haiti because his residency does not qualify. Candidates have to have lived in Haiti for the five previous years prior to an election.
Wyclef Jean has been living and paying taxes in the US during that time.
Jean had been born in the country of Haiti but had moved to New York and New Jersey when he was just nine years old.
Many were hoping Wyclef Jean, the famous rapper, would have done a lot of good for the earthquake-ravaged nation.
Wyclef Jean is currently in hiding after he was sent death-threats
Other candidates, apart from Wyclef Jean, are in the running for the position of president of Haiti.
Wyclef Jean said the rumor from Reuters is not true. He tweeted: REUTERS REPORT FALSE ~ OFFICIAL CANDIDATE LIST WILL BE ANNOUNCED TOMORROW. @WYCLEF #HAITI
