(Sarasota, FL) WWSB-TV news anchor Lauren Dorsett will be presented with the Broadcaster’s Club of Florida “Rising Star Award” for 2012 at its next luncheon on Friday March 9 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the SaraBay Golf and Country Club in Sarasota, FL. The award is in recognition of Ms. Dorsett’s exceptional contributions to the Sarasota/Bradenton community, both on-the-air, and for her off-the-air civic service.
Lauren Dorsett co-anchors the Sarasota ABC affiliate’s 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts with Scott Dennis and anchors the 11 p.m. newscast.
Ms. Dorsett previously worked at WTXL in Tallahassee where she was the 5 p.m. news anchor and health reporter. She also hosted a weekly political segment on the news broadcast.
Prior to working in Tallahassee, Lauren Dorsett was a reporter for KCFW in Montana. Her experience there landed her an anchor position for "Montana Today" at KECI in Missoula. After only a year she was runner-up for the state's E.B. Craney "Broadcaster of the Year" Award. Lauren also worked in Washington, D.C. where she interviewed some of the country's movers and shakers, including former first lady Hillary Clinton. Prior to that, Lauren worked at KTLA in Los Angeles.
Lauren Dorsett grew up in Simi Valley, CA, and attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Television Production and a minor in American history.
