n a horrible occurrence of violence an 88 year old WWII veteran was brutally beaten by to males ages 16 to 19 years of age. This story was reported by NBC news on August 23, 2013.
Spokane police stated they were looking for two suspects in the attack Wednesday night on Delbert “Shorty” Belton who has been retired for a number of years from a aluminum company. He lived in this same city for most of his life after he was discharged from the Army after the war.
With too many injuries incurred he died Thursday morning. As police released surveillance camera photos of two young men, a makeshift memorial overflowing with flowers, U.S. Flags and kind words sprouted Thursday outside the Eagles Lodge in the North part of Spokane, Washington. It took place in a parking lot where he was assaulted; there was no clear indication he knew these individuals before this occasion. Friends and family remember Belton as a warm, generous man that was willing to help anyone in need.
