WWE wrestler Zack Ryder is at it again with a new web video series ‘Zack Ryder’s Last Rezort’ which was posted today by Ryder on his own Youtube channel. In the first episode, Ryder using a serious tone stated that simply being on the WWE roster was not “living the dream” but that becoming a top star, a WWE Champion, and headlining Wrestlemania was his dream. Ryder also said this new web show will not carrying the “happy go lucky” feeling of his previous web series and that he was trying to make “lightning strike twice”. The first episode of “Last Rezort” is posted above this article.
The former United States Champion produced the popular “Z! True Long Island Story” which started in 2011 and quickly became an internet sensation bringing Ryder up from a wrestler many fans forgot about and to contending for singles gold. The series was comedic and endearing showing Ryder trying to climb his way up the wrestling ladder with the ‘Ryder Revolution’. Ryder’s new internet initiative finds the former WWE Tag Team Champion once again trying to bring his name out of the shadows and into the spotlight.
WWE eventually bought “Z! True Long Island Story” and added it to their official Youtube channel before the show ended with episode 100 in January 2013. In the past year, Ryder had teased his 1 million plus followers on social media that he would renew the “Z! True Long Island Story” but that never happened.
Pro Wrestling Examiner’s Perspective: The old punk rock motto of “DIY” applies here as Ryder tries to rejuvenate his character independent of the WWE machine and get fans back behind him before the company allows him to slip into obscurity. Some fans and insiders of have been critical of Ryder in the past as being a ‘mark for himself’ and maybe he got too into being the self-proclaimed ‘internet champion’ (he made his own belt), but WWE is a competitive world with every talent on the roster wanting to get their time to shine.
