Randy Orton (c) versus Batista versus Daniel Bryan or Triple H

Randy Orton has been The Authority’s choice to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion and the “face of the WWE” since SummerSlam ’13.

Batista made a much-heralded return to WWE in January and immediately won the Royal Rumble match to earn this opportunity.

The history and story between these two men is rich, thanks to their time as the two junior members of Evolution back in 2003 and 2004. And Evolution of course was headlined by Triple H, the current COO of the company. The two men quickly grew in main event level talents and fought battles against each other over the WWE Championship in 2009.

While on paper the story was there and the match itself would have been good, the fans badly wanted Daniel Bryan in this spot. The outright booed Batista at every turn and his heroic return was met with disdain. To compensate, Batista quickly reverted to his Hollywood heel status and embraced the jeers. That left the WrestleMania main event as a bout between two villains, which was unheard of.

Then on the March 10 episode of Monday Night RAW, Daniel Bryan and a legion of fans “Occupied RAW” and coerced Triple H into a one-on-one bout and the chance to enter this match should he win. The next week on RAW, a furious Triple H confronted his former Evolution stablemates and announced that the winner of the Bryan-Triple H match would be included this match.

That immediately added intrigue and interest into this contest. Either Daniel Bryan will get the redemption the fans have been clamoring for since August. Or Triple H will battle his former Evolution protégés in a match that is nearly a decade in the making. Either way, making this a triple threat match finally made it a match worthy of WrestleMania main event.
