Full disclosure, I love battle royals. The idea of a bunch of wrestlers combined into one match has been intriguing to me since I started watching wrestling.

And to WWE’s credit they have always done a good job of trying to get the most wrestlers possible on the WrestleMania card each and every year. Many times it devolves into a battle royal that airs on the pre-show before the pay per view begins.

But this year the match will make the pay per view proper thanks to the stakes involved. WrestleMania XXX’s guest host Hulk Hogan instituted this bout and invoked the memory of Andre the Giant to make it much more special.

Twenty-seven names have been announced for the match so far, leaving spots open for returns or nostalgic surprise entrants.

This battle royal has been given much more hype than most battle royals in history, thanks to the stakes involved. Wrestlers have made a big deal of entering the match and claiming the Andre the Giant Trophy. There has been an old-school build to this match, reminiscent of the huge battle royals that took place in San Francisco in the 1970s.

The company is seriously hyping up The Big Show as the winner, what with the Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant connection. It is an obvious and predictable outcome, especially if Hulk Hogan comes out and shakes hands with the winner and presents the trophy. And with other potential favorites like Roman Reigns and Cesaro not in the match, it leaves winners pool wide open.
