Welcome to live WWE WrestleMania XXIX coverage for Examiner.com. Tonight’s show is broadcast live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Tonight wwe.com broadcast a live one-hour pre-show before the pay per view went live on the air. In addition cable companies broadcast a thirty-minute free for all to fuel more hype. The on-line broadcast was great as it featured a NFL style panel of Jim Ross, Scott Stanford, Dusty Rhodes and Kofi Kingston providing analysis inside the arena. Tony Dawson was outside the arena talking with entering fans and Josh Matthews and Matt Striker called the action for the pre-show match.
In the pre-show match, The Miz made Wade Barrett tap out to an inverted hook on the Figure 4 leglock to win the Intercontinental Championship for a second time. The match was about five minutes long.
The show opened with a Hurricane Sandy video voiced over by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Another top notch video package hyping up the show and the spectacle of WrestleMania followed that.
Randy Orton, Sheamus & The Big Show versus The Shield (Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose)
Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary. There was no “America the Beautiful” or national anthem for the viewing public to see.
Sheamus and Reigns started the match with a brawl. The two had an even change with clubbing shots. Sheamus got a one count pinfall and tag to Orton. Orton took over quickly before Reigns got away and made the tag to Rollins. Orton took over on Rollins with a ten count punch and a slingshot suplex. Tag back to Sheamus. Sheamus got caught in The Shield’s corner but fought out and got a two count on Ambrose with a powerslam.
Show tagged in and hit Ambrose with signature slaps to the chest. Show then came off the ropes looking for something but Ambrose hit him with a basement dropkick and a tag to Rollins. Rollins got a two count and forceful press off the lateral press. Tag to Reigns who got another two count. Quick tags as Ambrose, now completely shirtless, came back in. The trio kept the offense on the massive Show and smartly made quick tags. Another two count for Rollins and a tag to Reigns.
Reigns slowed it down with a chinlock. Show powered out of that and looked for a hot tag but Rollins knocked Orton off the apron. Show got the tag to Sheamus who came in a house of fire. He caught Rollins and tore his riot gear off and hit him with his patented ten forearms to the chest. Ambrose got tagged in and suffered the same clubbing fate. He then both men with separate Finlay Rolls.
On the outside all three of The Shield attacked Sheamus. Orton tried to make the save but got knocked down too. Back in all three triple team Sheamus. They looked for the triple powerbomb but Show took them all out with a huge spear.
Sheamus got the hot tag to Orton who dropped Ambrose with his patented snap powerslam and the Viper Strike DDT. He cued up for the RKO on Amrbose but instead he hit Rollins with a beautiful one when he was coming off the top rope. Reigns then hit a spear on Orton, allowing for Ambrose to sneak in and get the win.
WINNERS – The Shield
Post-match, Show argued with his partners and knocked them both down with KO punches. He seemed unhappy with his lack of ring time and not being tagged in by his teammates.
