With the 2014 Royal Rumble results official, fans and pro wrestling analysts are now turning their attention to which matches could headline WrestleMania 30. The biggest pay-per-view of the year for WWE arrives in early April, and based on some of last night's winners, losers and those causing interference, it appears there's some matches being set up. One of those will involve the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion and last night's big Royal Rumble winner.
A Jan. 27 report from Wrestling Inc notes that Batista was last night’s Royal Rumble match winner, but that fans weren’t happy with that decision at all. It led to The Animal getting booed immensely by the crowd inside Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center, and also led to Batista getting in one fan’s face, telling him he’d’ “snap him in half,” and then flipping off the crowd while mocking Daniel Bryan’s “YES” chant. Daniel Bryan was not part of the Royal Rumble match, and fans booed the No. 30 participant, Rey Mysterio, when they realized Bryan would not be entering, or winning the big match.
With Batista’s win, it seems to set up the big WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. The question will be whether or not he faces Randy Orton, John Cena or someone else. Currently, fans and wrestling bloggers believe it will be Batista vs. Orton in New Orleans in early April. However, there's another pay-per-view, the Elimination Chamber, arriving from Minnesota in February, where it's expected the title will be defended. If Orton retains at the next PPV, where would that leave John Cena and Daniel Bryan?
John Cena lost to Orton last night in a championship bout, but it was due to interference from the Wyatt Family. Bray had defeated Daniel Bryan in the first match of the night, then shut the lights out on Cena when he had Orton about to tap to a submission hold. That said, it’s believed this is the start of a setup for the two superstars, Wyatt and Cena, to feud, and have a WrestleMania 30 match.
Brock Lesnar was another winner on Sunday night, after using a steel chair to seriously batter Big Show. He ultimately avoided an F5 punch and then hoisted Show up for the F5 finisher. After the win, he continued to beat up the giant Big Show with a steel chair. It’s believed due to the record of wins over major names like CM Punk, Triple H and Big Show that Lesnar has racked up, the only one left will be The Undertaker. That would appear to set up Brock vs. Taker in an attempt at breaking the legendary “undefeated streak.”
There had been some other rumored matches reported, and the most interesting of them seems to be Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus. The two fought at a previous installment of Mania, where Sheamus was able to level Bryan with the Brogue Kick in less than 30 seconds to win the former World Heavyweight championship title. Could the two meet up again and put on a longer, more satisfying match for fans at WrestleMania 30?
There's also CM Punk, who probably won't be in the championship picture due to the way The Authority has been "keeping him down." He entered the Royal Rumble at the No. 1 spot and survived until at least the final four competitors, a tough feat. However, the odds were once again stacked against him. Kane had entered the match earlier in the night and was eliminated, but ended up coming back out of the crowd and yanking Punk over the top rope to eliminate him. That seems to set up Punk vs. Kane at Elimination Chamber and could lead to Punk eventually getting his hands on Triple H at WrestleMania 30.
Of course that will leave rumors for the “filler matches” involving tag teams, divas and other championships including the tag team, United States and Intercontinental titles. With Roman Reigns breaking away from his two Shield teammates, there could be a match in the making there, possibly a Triple Threat match as some rumors suggest.
So, the rumored WrestleMania 30 matches right now are:
- Batista vs. Randy Orton for WWE World Heavyweight title
- John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt
- Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker
- CM Punk vs. Triple H
- Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
WrestleMania 30 arrives on Sunday, April 6 from Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
