The WWE TLC 2013 results were decided on Sunday night at Houston's Toyota Center, with the main event featuring John Cena vs. Randy Orton to unify the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships. Both titles were hung above the ring, with Cena and Orton getting to compete in a tables, ladders, chairs match. The first man to grab both titles would be declared the new WWE World Heavyweight champion aka the "Champion of Champions."
According to an LA Times report from Dec. 16, Sunday night’s big winners included CM Punk who defeated all of The Shield in a 3-on-1 handicap match. The win came after Roman Reigns accidentally speared down his own team member, Dean Ambrose, allowing Punk to get the pinfall. Daniel Bryan didn’t fare quite as well in his 3-on-1 match, as Bray Wyatt entered the match almost five minutes into the action and eventually got the win with his finisher Sister Abigail. As of this report, there’s no official word on whether or not Bryan has accepted Bray’s offer to join the family.
The Rhodes Brothers, Big E Langston and A.J. Lee were all able to successfully defend their respective titles. Cody and Goldust ended up facing Big Show and Rey Mysterio as the other two teams were eliminated first. A Cross Rhodes finisher on Mysterio was the difference maker in the match. Big E used his “Big Ending” to finish off Damien Sandow, while A.J. escaped several attempted Sharpshooter holds from Natalya and eventually turned one into a pinfall for the win.
There were several other lesser matches on the card including Fandango picking up a win over Dolph Ziggler on the pre-show, R-Truth defeating Brodus Clay after Tensai and the Funkadactyls left Clay’s corner, and Kofi Kingston defeating The Miz. However, the main event featured the title unification, with all eyes on Cena and Orton.
The close saw Orton wisely retrieve a pair of handcuffs from outside the ring which he used to cuff Cena to the ropes. Cena managed to break the rope free and even knocked Orton off the ladder at one point. However, Cena was soon stopped in his own attempt to retrieve both title belts as Orton yanked the rope down causing Cena to crash head-first through a table. Orton was able to pull down both championship belts and was congratulated after the feat by Triple H, Stephanie and Vince McMahon.
The 2013 TLC pay-per-view was shown on cable, satellite and live stream internet feed via WWE on Sunday, Dec. 15. There is likely to be plenty of follow-up to all of the results on Monday night’s episode of Raw on USA starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, as the “Road to WrestleMania 30” is about to get started.
