The end of the hot summer months always brings about the hottest wrestling action, and the evening of Aug. 18, 2013, was no different than it has been in recent years. WWE "SummerSlam" took place on this night and there was a lot to be settled by way of titles, grudges, and the hottest method of battle of all: fire.
Below is a full recap and the entirety of the results for WWE "SummerSlam," so if you don't want to know what happened or haven't seen it yet, then stop reading now.
~ Rob Van Dam defeated Dean Ambrose by disqualification so that allowed Ambrose to hold onto the United States title. This was, unfortunately, the pre-match and it really was quite good before the awful ending. RVD hit the five-star frogsplash and went to pin Ambrose, but Roman Reigns came out to spear RVD and cause the disqualification.
~ Bray Wyatt defeated Kane in a "Ring of Fire" match which was the same set-up as an "Inferno Match." The ring was surrounded by a trough that had fire shooting up and it shot higher every time someone hit the ring mat. This was a rather slow match and eventually the other Wyatts got into the ring to beat down Kane and Bray Wyatt got the pin.
After the match, the Wyatts slammed Kane's head with the ring steps.
~ Cody Rhodes defeated Damien Sandow in an incredibly short match that wasn't worth much of anything.
~ Alberto Del Rio defeated Christian with the Cross Arm Breaker to hold onto his World Heavyweight Title. Not a bad match at all, and Del Rio is so much better as a heel and is really looking better now that he is one again. Christian put up a good fight, but was forced to tap out.
~ Natalya defeated Brie Bella in the pointless match to simply promote "Total Divas." Seriously cannot believe that RVD/Ambrose was bumped to the pre-match for this.
~ Brock Lesnar defeated CM Punk in an incredible "no disqualification" match. This was just insanely brutal and an excellent match after weeks of phenomenal build-up. This was filled with some great spots and big-time action as Punk nailed a "Macho Man" elbow with a chair, Lesnar cinched in the Kimura Lock, and Punk even broke out the Anaconda Vice.
The ending came when Punk locked the Vice on Paul Heyman. This allowed Lesnar to get up and nail Punk with a chair. Finally, Lesnar delivered an F-5 onto the chair and got the pin.
~ Kaitlyn and Dolph Ziggler defeated Big E Langston and AJ Lee in a mixed tag match that was short, but not bad. Good wrestling action by both Divas and it was a decent overall match. The ending came when Ziggler nailed Big E with the Zig Zag for the pin.
~ Daniel Bryan defeated John Cena to win the WWE Title. It was a great match and really brought about the best of both men. The ending came when Bryan was able to wriggle out of the Attitude Adjustment, nail Cena, and blast the champ with a running knee. Triple H slid down and counted the pin to give Bryan the title.
Cena got up to shake Bryan's hand as the confetti showered down and the crowd went nuts. Randy Orton came out to possibly cash in his MITB briefcase, but Bryan was waiting. Orton went to walk away, but turned around as Triple H hit Bryan with a huge pedigree.
Orton slid into the ring, handed Triple H the briefcase, and cashed in his title shot. Orton rolled over Bryan and got the easy pin to win the title.
