WWE SummerSlam 2013 is underway and offers some fantastic matches in this, the second biggest WWE pay-per-view of the year on Aug. 18. Here is a look at the “WWE SummerSlam” results as the PPV rolls on.
Before the pay-per-view started, there was a pre-show match that aired on WWE.com as a free streaming match. While the stream itself was shaky, cutting in and out, Dean Ambrose defended his United States championship against Rob Van Dam. The match lasted a little over 10 minutes and ended after RVD hit the frog splash on Ambrose, but Roman Reigns ran in to save his partner with a DQ finish.
The Shield ran as Mark Henry and Big Show came down to save RVD from a beat down.
The first match of the actual “WWE SummerSlam” results was the Ring of Fire match between Kane and Bray Wyatt. The match took place in a ring surrounded by fire, to keep anyone from interfering. However, Wyatt’s two disciples found a way in anyway and they beat down Kane so Bray Wyatt could win the match. After it ended, the disciples dragged Kane into the back.
The next match was between former tag team partners Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow. This was caused because Sandown turned on Rhodes to win the Money in the Bank briefcase and Rhodes has been tormenting him ever since. Rhodes picked up the big PPV win here with the Cross Rhodes.
The world championship match was next as Alberto Del Rio defended his belt against Christian. In what was a very surprisingly solid wrestling match, Del Rio won in about 12 minutes with the cross armbreaker. After the match, he cut a promo about being a hero to the Latino community.
Next up is a match spinning off of the “Total Diva’s” TV show, as Brie Bella fought Natalya. In what has to be considered an upset, Natalya made Brie tap out to the sharpshooter.
Next up was the no disqualification match between CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. The match was an amazing fight that went well over 20 minutes and only ended with Paul Heyman interfered. Punk ended up getting the Anaconda Vice on Heyman but that gave Brock the chance to hit him with a chair and then hit the F5 for the win.
Next up is the mixed tag team match pitting Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn against AJ Lee and Big E Langston. The match was a quicker one and Ziggler pinned Big E to get the win for his team
Finally, in the main event of the “WWE SummerSlam” recap, John Cena defended his WWE championship against Daniel Bryan. The match lasted around 20 minutes and the end came when Daniel Bryan hit a running knee into the face of Cena and then pinned him to win his first ever WWE Championship.
However, Triple H turned heel after the match and hit Bryan with the Pedrigree. That brought out Randy Orton, who cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and pinned Bryan to leave “WWE Summerslam” as the new WWE champion.
