According to an Aug. 17 report from Cageside Seats, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are set to collide at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, in a match expected to take place on the main card of the WWE SummerSlam 2014 pay-per-view spectacular. Ambrose and Rollins are former teammates, so their feud is extra juicy.
Rollins and Ambrose were teammates in The Shield for over a year, before Mr. Money in the Bank decided to split the group up in shocking fashion. Just over a month ago, Rollins broke up The Shield by smashing Roman Reigns in the back with a steel chair, before attacking Ambrose.
Over the course of a five-minute segment, Rollins broke up The Shield and turned heel. He instantly became one of the top villains in the WWE, but that's what the promotion wanted. Rollins turning heel propelled his career to new heights, as he was given the opportunity to become a superstar singles star.
As for Ambrose, the breakup also proved beneficial for his career. Just like Rollins, Ambrose became a breakout singles star in the aftermath of The Shield's split. Of course, the time will likely come sometime down the road for The Shield to reunite. The WWE will likely want to script The Shield's reunion as a sporadic, part-time thing to put together once every few years.
At present time, WWE higher-ups aren't thinking about a Shield reunion. That will happen a long ways down the road. For now, their only concern is getting some real heat for Rollins, and turning Ambrose into a marketable babyface character. So far, Rollins has gotten over in a big way with WWE Universe, even as a heel.
When the Shield first split up, many fans thought the WWE was making a mistake by turning Rollins heel instead of Ambrose. However, it has been all gravy so far. Rollins has been getting the boos the WWE was hoping he would get, and Ambrose has been receiving massive babyface reactions.
A crisp match at WWE SummerSlam 2014 could do wonders for both Rollins and Ambrose, as the promotion heads into Wrestlemania season. Many of the storylines for Wrestlemania 31 are expected to begin at SummerSlam, so fans will be watching with a close eye to see what happens during the Ambrose vs. Rollins match.
The interesting thing about the Ambrose vs. Rollins match at WWE SummerSlam 2014 is the fact that it will be a Lumberjack Match, with over a dozen WWE superstars lining the sidelines to make sure neither man escapes the ring. WWE SummerSlam 2014 goes live at 8 p.m. on the WWE Network, and also on pay-per-view.
