WWE spoilers: World championship changes hands on Smackdown

The WWE pre-taped their WWE Smackdown television show on Jan. 8 and The Rock made a special appearance on the Friday night show. Here is a look at what went down at the Smackdown tapings.

Smackdown opened with The Rock making his return to the show. This was the first time he showed up on Smackdown in ten years, which is interesting since the show was originally named after him. This was also a big deal, because the show is in Miami, which is where The Rock went to college.

The Rock talked about how Punk didn't show up and then started talking about former Miami Hurricane players when The Rhodes Scholars interrupted him. Sandow introduced themselves and then Cody Rhodes took the mic and told The Rock to leave while he still can. The Rock finally grew tired of the two, hit the Rock Bottom to Sandow and then beat down Rhodes and delivered the People's Elbow.

Randy Orton fought U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro in the first match, and won by disqualification when The Shield attacked Orton. Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee followed up with a mixed tag win over Great Khali and Natalya when AJ pinned Natalya.

In the next match Sheamus beat all three members of 3MB in a handicap match. Kane and Daniel Bryan came out next and destroyed the Prime Time Players in a quick tag team match.

In the main event, World Champion Big Show fought Alberto Del Rio in a Last Man Standing Match, and in a shocking finish, Del Rio actually beat The Big Show for the World Championship on Smackdown.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown airs at 8 p.m. EST on SyFy.
