On Tuesday night, the WWE taped an episode of SmackDown live from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH. This taped episode will air on Friday, March 22 at 8pm EST on the SyFy Channel. According to a March 19 report by WrestlingInc.com, the SmackDown taping opened with an in-ring segment titled MizTV and was hosted by former WWE champion The Miz. His two guests, Randy Orton and Sheamus, are debating whether or not they can trust The Big Show to be their tag-team partner against The Shield at WrestleMania 29 on Sunday, April 7.
On Monday's episode of RAW, Ryback was removed from the team of Orton and Sheamus to be placed in a singles match against Mark Henry at WM 29. A few minutes after this announcement, The Shield tried to attack the undermanned duo of Orton and Sheamus. However, The Big Show, who has had a recent run-in with The Shield, came out to even the sides. Orton believes that Big Show earned the right but Sheamus disagrees.
The Big Show would come out during SmackDown's opening segment and told Orton and Sheamus they could trust him. GM Booker T came out and said that the three men will team up in the main event of SmackDown. The dissention between Sheamus and Big Show would continue throughout the night.
The first match of the night was a squash match between Mark Henry and Zack Ryder. Henry defeated Ryder with the WSS. He would hit his finisher two more times before Ryback came out and clotheslined Henry out of the ring.
With the help of Big E Langston, Dolph Ziggler defeate Kofi Kingston via pinfall after hitting Kofi with the zig zag.
In what's being hailed as "the match of the night", Jack Swagger defeated Chris Jericho for the second week in a row. However, this time, Fandango interfered and caused Swagger to get the win. After the match, Fandango continued to attack Jericho.
Brodus Clay and Tensai fought Team Rhodes Scholars to a no contest after The Bella Twins got into a fight against Naomi.
In the semi-main event of the night, The Miz defeated U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro in a non-title match. Miz scored the victory via the figure four leg lock. After the match, Miz had a stare-down with the IC champion Wade Barrett, who was on commentary.
The main event of the night saw Big Show, Orton & Sheamus easily defeat 3MB. However, The Big Show and Sheamus ended up fighting with each other after the match. The Shield tried to come out and attack the trio while there was a distraction. Fortunately, Sheamus and Big Show joined Orton in fending off The Shield as SmackDown came to an end.
