The Tea Party and conservatives continue to be portrayed in the world of professional wrestling.
Last week on the hit show "WWE Monday Night Raw" on the USA network, the wrestling organization debuted a new character named "Zebekiah Colter" played by wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell and named after conservative voice, Ann Coulter. The character of Zebekiah Colter is a carbon copy of the Tea Party and the target audience of Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets. The veteran Colter is the new manager and mouthpiece for young superstar Jack Swagger, himself a former All-American amateur champion.
Swagger has had his persona remade into a conservative Tea Party member who, along with Colter, blames all of America's problems on illegal immigrants and people who "don't look like me." During Monday night's "Monday Night Raw" broadcast, Colter and Swagger held a mock "State of the Union Address," echoing the thoughts of many conservatives around the country. While the speech was going on, "Zeb Colter" and "Jack Swagger" gained enough attention to trend on Twitter. They have their own personal page on YouTube where highlights of their political rants can be viewed. During Swagger's wrestling match, the announcers even referenced Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Alex Jones as possible fans of Colter and Swagger.
In the world of professional wrestling, the story-line writers try to tap into the real world to reflect into their fantasy world. While the talking heads at Fox News and radio show hosts like Rush Limbaugh spew hate to people who take them seriously, the WWE seems to be shining the spotlight on the Tea Party in a not so flattering way.
