The Hollywood Reporter revealed on March 15 that Marvel Studios has cast the role of Drax the Destroyer in their upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” film. WWE legend and mixed martial artist Dave Bautista will play the green skinned warrior when the movie hits the big screen. Bautista previously starred as a villain in Vin Diesel’s soon-to-be-released “Riddick” and “The Man With the Iron Fists.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy” will be set in the same movie-verse as “The Avengers,” and all of Disney’s Marvel-based films. Plot details are under heavy security, but rumors have surfaced that the space faring superhero team will face the evil Thanos in James Gunn’s sci-fi adventure.
Thanos was revealed as the secret master of Loki during the end credits of “The Avengers.” He was created by Jim Starlin in 1973, and has played a major part in Marvel history since his debut. Fans are most familiar with the character from Marvel’s “The Infinity Saga.”
It was previously announced that Chris Pratt, of “Parks and Recreation” fame, had been cast as Peter Quill. Peter Quill’s alternate identity of Star-Lord serves as leader of the superhero group.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” will hit theaters on Aug. 1, 2014.
