WWE scout William Regal was spotted at this weekend's big PWG "Battle of Los Angeles" event. According to Wrestle Zone on Sept. 1, Regal was at the second day of the super card and was watching two wrestlers specifically.
Regal, who was in Los Angeles to record an episode of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's podcast, said he was there enjoying the show, but fans spotted him standing at the curtain watching one match in particular.
That match saw former Ring of Honor world champion Kevin Steen fighting indie star Johnny Gargano. Steen's old tag team partner El Generico is signed to the WWE and wrestling in the developmental program. However, it is more likely that, if Regal was there to scout anyone, it was Gargano.
Johnny Gargano has wrestled all over the United States independent scene, including Dragon Gate USA, which is where the WWE discovered Dean Ambrose. While Kevin Steen is a fantastic talent, he does not possess the look that the WWE looks for when scouting independent talent.
Gargano has worked with the WWE before, wrestling dark matches against MVP in 2007, posing as a security guard in 2010, and then wrestling Brodus Clay in 2011. He also recently had a tryout match for Ring of Honor recently, wrestling brand new WWE developmental talent Sami Callihan.
