While some still believe that the CM Punk situation is not real and is just a WWE angle, the fact is that Punk has left the WWE and there are some who feel he will not be back. According to Wrestle View on Feb. 17, there are new WWE rumors that indicate that the WWE has granted CM Punk his release from the company.
This report came from Dave Scherer, who is a legitimate WWE insider with numerous sources in the company.
The WWE has not released any statement about CM Punk’s release from the company, possibly because the WWE Network launches next week and the last thing that the WWE wants is to give fans a reason not to subscribe.
The reasons that CM Punk left the WWE to begin with were numerous, ranging from burn out to numerous injuries to dissatisfaction with his character’s direction. Punk’s contract was set to expire in July of this year and he was legitimately considering retirement. Because of that, he wanted to play a big role in the main event of what could be his final “Wrestlemania” event.
However, with him rumored to be facing Triple H, he might have just decided further injury was not worth the risk. In his very last match with the WWE, he spent much of the time in the “Royal Rumble” match sitting in the corner, selling an injury but doing very little. It was clear something was wrong.
Vince McMahon wanted CM Punk back in the WWE because of his value to merchandising and other areas of the WWE, but Triple H wanted him gone because of the disrespect it took for Punk to walk out right before the “WWE Monday Night Raw” episode after the “Royal Rumble.”
