WWE rumors: The Shield to battle Evolution at 'Extreme Rules'

On “WWE Monday Night Raw” this week, The Shield came down to save Daniel Bryan from an attack by Batista, Randy Orton, Triple H and Kane. According to PWS on Friday, the WWE rumors indicate The Shield will battle a reunited Evolution at the “Extreme Rules” pay-per-view. However, the feud looks to be temporary.

It was just two months ago that the WWE was teasing breaking up The Shield, with the three members unable to work together. Then, they got on the same page just in time to squash Kane and The New Age Outlaws at “Wrestlemania 30.” Following that match, The Shield looked stronger than ever and were clearly fan favorites.

That match also seemed to mark the end of the New Age Outlaws appearances on television. According to PWS, both Billy Gunn and Road Dogg have full time WWE jobs behind the scenes and the New Age Outlaws WWE return was just temporary. With the injury Billy Gunn suffered at “Wrestlemania 30,” the WWE looks like they will just remove them from wrestling again.

However, it seemed perfect that the reunited Evolution returned just in time. With their feud seemingly behind them, Batista and Randy Orton seem on the same page again, and Triple H looks like he wants to return to the ring as well. While having Triple H wrestle at “Extreme Rules” might be a long shot, he could play the Ric Flair managerial role while Kane wrestles with Evolution.

This seems to be a continuation of the new generation taking on the old guard that started at “Wrestlemania 30.” With The Shield, Daniel Bryan and Cesaro all going over major stars from the past at the big event, as well as Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker’s streak, and then Paige and the Wyatt Family winning big on “WWE Monday Night Raw,” the new generation seems to be here to stay. The Shield vs. Evolution is part of that.
