There are some new WWE rumors that could change how the title matches at “Wrestlemania” are booked in 2014. According to Rajah on Nov. 4, the WWE is considering a champion vs. champion match for the big 30th anniversary show.
This move could completely disrupt the entire draw of the “WWE Royal Rumble” pay-per-view in January. The entire purpose of the “Royal Rumble” is to determine who will challenge for the world or WWE title at “Wrestlemania.” That is what makes winning the event so special. Without that perk, it is just a long battle royal.
Knowing that the winner gets a title shot at the biggest show of the year is what makes it so exciting to follow.
Now, there is talk that the WWE may consider having the WWE champion and world champion battle at “Wrestlemania 30,” either in a unification match or a special attraction.
Either way, it eliminates the chance to the “Royal Rumble” to mean anything in the grand scheme of things, unless they use some convoluted booking to have one of the champions win the “Rumble” or win the right to the match from the “Rumble” winner after the show.
John Cena has been doing a lot of talking about bringing back prestige to the world championship, which is the former WCW world championship. For years, the WWE title has always seemed more prestigious, and this looks like it might be a way to eliminate the world title completely and drop down to one major title if they go through with this.
